since the nineteenth century to 1966 the territ ory of the subsidiary in South Africa, a British protectorate. Cr eated by the British after the annexation of territories occupied since around the fifteenth century by clans speaking languages f rom the Bantu family Sotho-Tswana peoples, integrated in the first half of the nineteenth century as a result of a local king, Moshoeshoe I, the one nation called Basotho (literally - southern Sotho ). In 1843 Morena e Moholo / morena oa Basotho (Great chief / king of Basotho) Moshoeshoe I entered into a strategic alliance with the British Cape Colony in fear of annexation of his kingdom by VoortrekkerĂłw, Boers coming from the lying to the west of Orange Free State.
